Fun & Festive Halloween Activities for Toddlers

From candy and costumes to haunted houses and witchy movies, it’s no wonder kids love Halloween. Luckily, there are many ways to celebrate beyond trick-or-treating. To help you make this season special and fun, we put together a list of creative Halloween activities you can do at home that are perfect for toddlers. Happy Halloween!

Cooking

Halloween often centers around sweets, but it doesn’t have to be all about candy. There are a ton of simple ways to make Halloween treats a bit healthier and still appetizing to your little one. So why not use this as an opportunity to spend some quality time in the kitchen? Here are a few of our favorite toddler-friendly Halloween recipes to test out this season!

  • Spooky strawberries: Melt white chocolate then dip the strawberries in it. Drizzle more melted chocolate down the end of the strawberry to create a ghost trail. Add eyes to your ghost with melted milk or dark chocolate.

  • Jack-o-lantern smoothie bowls: Add all of your smoothie ingredients to the blender and blend. Pour into bowls, then create your jack-o-lantern faces with magic shell chocolate!

  • Hot dog mummies: Wrap biscuit or puff pastry dough in thin strips around half of a hot dog, leaving space for a face to peek out. Decorate your little mummy with mustard dots or black olives and mozzarella cheese for eyes!

  • Graveyard dirt cups: Add chocolate pudding to small clear cups and give your little one the freedom to mix and match their favorite toppings like oreo cookie crumble dirt, gummy worms, cookie tombstones, and candy eyes!

Arts and Crafts

If you enjoy decorating your home for Halloween, arts and crafts are a great way to include your toddler in the festivities. Here are a few of our favorite Halloween crafts for toddlers!

  • Pumpkin goodie bags: All you need is orange tissue paper, green tape, and small candies to put inside! Cut the orange tissue paper into circles, put a small handful of candy in the middle and form your pumpkins. Use the green tape to hold it together at the top, then gift your goodie bags to whoever you like!

  • Ghost luminaries: Get white paper bags and electric tea lights. Let your toddler draw a spooky face on their bag before illuminating it with the flameless candle.

  • Halloween fridge magnets: Roll and shape your clay, then let it dry for 48 hours. Paint your magnets and let them dry for another 24 hours. Glue a magnet to the back, then put them on the fridge!

Party Games

Perfect for Halloween parties or celebrations at home, Halloween games are always a big hit. We put together our favorite Halloween party game ideas that are sure to entertain your energetic toddlers!

  • Festive freeze dance: put on some spooky tunes and have a dance party! Turn the lights or music on and off and have your little one strike a scary pose.

  • Mummy dress up: offer equal amounts of toilet paper to kids in teams. Have them race to wrap up their friend or a sibling. Whoever runs out of paper first wins!

  • Spider races: make or buy little spiders and set up lanes with ribbon or tape on the floor or a table. Have little ones blow the spider until it makes it across the finish line! Or, hide the fake spiders around your house or yard and have them hunt and collect as many as they can.

Movies

Get cozy on the couch with cute Halloween classics for toddlers. Here are a few of our favorite Halloween-themed films and episodes that your kids will love!

  • It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown

  • Pooh’s Heffalump Halloween Party

  • Curious George: A Halloween Boo Fest
