Spotlight: National Breast Cancer Foundation More than awareness

Spotlight: National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc®

October marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a yearly campaign to spread awareness of the disease and educate the public on its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and cure.

1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime, which makes it one of the leading cancers in American women. Whether it’s a mother, sister, aunt, or friend, everyone has a connection or knows someone who has been affected or survived breast cancer.

In honor of the month, our Doona family has united with National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc® to advocate for and raise funds for the meaningful cause. Committed to supporting mothers, fathers, and families, we want to continue to spread awareness and educate to save lives.

Celebrating 30+ years of Helping Women Now, National Breast Cancer Foundation was founded in 1991 by breast cancer survivor Janelle Hail. When Hail received her diagnosis at age 34, there was very little information about the disease.
After her treatment, Janelle made it her mission to enrich the lives of women globally and give them the resources they could make informed decisions about their healthcare and teach them the importance of early detection.

As one of the most recognized and respected breast cancer charities, NBCF’s mission is to provide help and inspire hope to those affected by breast cancer through early detection, education, and support services so that no one faces breast cancer alone.

Many breast cancer symptoms are not noticeable, so women who have screening mammograms have a lower chance of dying from breast cancer than women who do not have screening mammograms. Taking control and learning about your breast health is vital. Be proactive and increase your chances of detecting early by monthly breast self-exams, scheduling regular clinical breast exams, and mammograms

Due to poverty, less education, and a lack of health insurance, many can’t afford the cost of screening tests and are at a significantly higher risk of dying from breast cancer if later diagnosed. NBCF was established to fill in those gaps in cancer care, ensuring every woman has the access and information she needs to get through every step of her breast cancer journey. Over the last decade, NBCF has provided over 192,000 mammograms, over 858,000 patient navigation services, and over 240,000 breast health education services to those in need.

How can you help? Join us in the fight and support the cause by purchasing a Blush Pink Doona Car Seat and Stroller. $20 of every purchase will be dedicated to funding mammograms, supporting education, helping reach women in underserved communities, and much more.

Doona customers can shop in-store at participating retailers between October 1 and October 31, which have pledged to donate a portion of sales in support of National Breast Cancer Foundation. For a full list, click here
